You Don’t Have To Try So Hard

Last week I was looking for music that inspired me, represented me, for professional videos. I ran across songs like, ‘If Today Was Your Last Day’ (http://htchiro.com/if-today-was-your-last-day/), ‘Live Like You Were Dying’, ‘Imagine’ and of course many by Abba, Air Supply and Pat Benatar! I love music and after thinking about how I could inspire people through music, I have decided to write a blog every Monday based on a song/lyric. Music communicates to my soul and I believe these Music Mondays will fall into the laps of similar peeps.

As I was digging, I got distracted. 4 shiny balls later, I’m on youtube watching Colbie Caillat’s music video, Try…trying not to cry. I just put my makeup on and didn’t want to reapply (***you will know what I mean when you watch the video).  Anywho, I had heard it many times before, but didn’t know the lyrics. Women, this is powerful. Not only for you, but for your daughters, sisters, mothers, friends.

The song is all about who you are on the inside vs. what you look like from the outside. It’s what I love observing in women.

You don’t have to try so hard
You don’t have to, give it all away
You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up
You don’t have to change a single thing

It all comes back to YOU. Just be you. Fill up your tank first, love every ounce of who you are. When you fall, you just have to get up, get up, get up, get up.

Take your make-up off
Let your hair down
Take a breath
Look into the mirror, at yourself
Don’t you like you?
‘Cause I like you

Spend time figuring out who that woman is, underneath the makeup, the designer clothes, the professional and personal labels.

Don’t try so hard, don’t bend ’til you break.

And remember, you don’t have to change a single thing. ‘Cause I like you.

Sending all my love,

Dr. T
